Nicotine, marijuana, and dabs are extremely dangerous for young people. Despite the situations in which these products are legal, it's worth noting that the products are not legal for children. One reason for that is the unique vulnerability of the teenage brain.

In 2023, recent research reported that marijuana use is associated with significant changes to the physical structure of the brain. Findings include that habitual marijuana use is associated with a thinning of the prefrontal cortex, which is the part of the brain associated with learning and executive functioning. In addition, the study found an increased risk of developing psychosis, a serious psychiatric disorder characterized by confusion or disorganized thoughts, intense feelings, hallucinations, and in some cases, a loss of awareness of reality.
