LOTF Dialectical Journal #1 - Ch. 1: Conflict and Imagery

Use Chapter 1 of of Lord of the Flies to answer the following questions.

You MUST write in COMPLETE SENTENCES. You will lose points if you do not write in complete sentences.

Parenthetical Citations:

The questions asking for a quote also ask you to include a parenthetical citation. You will lose points for errors in formatting of the citation. Here's how to do that:

"Quote from the book copied word for word" (Author Last Name page number).

Example:

"Ralph took the shell from Piggy and a little water ran down his arm" (Golding 16). 

• • Notice:
    • There are quotations marks around the quoted material.
    • The parentheses go AFTER the quotation marks.
    • There is only ONE period, and it goes AFTER the last parenthesis, NOT inside the quotation marks.
    • There is no comma between the author's last name and the page number.
    • There is no use of an abbreviation for the word "page," such as pg., p., pp., page, etc. Just the number.
